Business people: Hires, promotions and honors

Buffalo Seminary has named Helen Ladds Marlette head of school. Currently assistant head of school, Marlette will succeed Jody Douglass, who is retiring in June 2016. The board of trustees of the all-girls school voted unanimously to offer Marlette the job. A graduate of Middlebury College, Marlette held several leadership positions at the Nichols School before coming to Buffalo Seminary in 2007.

Sovran Self Storage appointed Chris Laczi vice president of marketing. Laczi, with Sovran since 2000, holds two bachelor’s degrees from SUNY Geneseo. The company also named Jeffrey O’Donnell vice president of information technology, and Jeffrey Myszka vice president of store operations. O’Donnell joined the company in 2000 and is a SUNY Buffalo State graduate. Myszka, who joined the company in 1998, graduated from the University of New Hampshire.

Watts Architecture and Engineering named Jonathan K. Watts vice president. Watts re-joins the firm after spending the last five and half years with Pure Technologies US in Columbia, Md. Watts has bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and industrial engineering, both from the University at Buffalo.

Delaware North appointed John Czwartacki vice president of strategic communications and governmental affairs. Czwartacki was executive director of communications at Verizon Communications. Czwartacki also spent eight years as an adjunct professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree.

IMAK named Rob Francis sales director, North America thermal transfer ribbons. Francis was sales director of US printer OEM, Datamax-O’Neil. The company also named Jim Andreottola channel manager for wide format inks. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, and previously worked as director of sales for American Ink Jet Corp.

AAA Western and Central New York appointed Thomas Gardner an AAA insurance sales manager. Gardner, who opened his own insurance office in a Detroit suburb in 1994 before working for national firms, is a Northwood University graduate.

Evans Bank promoted Sarah Tucker to commercial loan support administrator. Tucker joined the bank in 2011 as a commercial loan servicer. She holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo State.  

Brock, Schechter & Polakoff appointed Christopher J. Patti in-charge senior accountant. Patti, a CPA, received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Niagara University.

ABC-Amega appointed Samantha Salazar global market intelligence coordinator. She is a recent graduate of Daemen College.
