Where we live: Amherst

The Amherst Central School Board named Bruce Fraser, a retired educator who was the Lockport City School District superintendent from 2001 and 2006, to serve as interim superintendent for the district.

Fraser will begin his service to Amherst Central Schools on Feb. 1, following the retirement of Laura Chabe.

Fraser worked for 18 years with the Lockport City School District as superintendent, director of secondary education, high school principal and assistant high school principal and also served as principal of Wilson High School.

Since his retirement, he was interim superintendent at Iroquois, Medina and Newfane school districts.

The Amherst Central School Board has retained the Western New York Educational Service Council to assist in the superintendent search process. They are expected to name a permanent replacement by the close of the current school year.
