Jericho Road is worthy of Erie County funding
As I recall, the City of Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors – a city that has embraced refugees. Yet according to an article in the Dec. 4 News, the Erie County Legislature plans to cut important and necessary funding to Jericho Road Community Health Center.
This center has been a safe haven for more than 1,200 refugees and native-born, low-income residents. Its medical and social services – without funding from the county – would increase the need for the county to augment these services at taxpayer expense. The clinic gives hope and medical care to people of all ages. Children are often most in need when families have no medical coverage. Healthy children are important to our community.
Perhaps if the legislators took the time to visit this clinic and witnessed the work done by Jericho Road, they might more clearly see the need and reconsider the budget cuts.
