SMITH, Karl "Smitty"

SMITH - Karl "Smitty" Age 76, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully at Degraff Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, December 13, 2015. Karl was predeceased by his wife, of 42 years, Arlene (Garaczkowski) in December of 2002, and his loving brother Eugene, in June of 2008. He was also predeceased by his parents Delmer and Hazel (Haas) Smith. Karl (Popo) is survived by his loving children, Elaine Booth, Karin Hewitt, Michael (Danielle) Smith and Paula (Steve) Dickinson. Karl was the proud and loving grandfather (papa) of Karl and Brandi Booth, Justin Hewitt, Emma, Claire, and Audrey Dickinson and Sophia Smith. Karl is also survived by sisters-in-law Priscilla Smith and Julie Klahn, brother in law Leo Garaczkowski, nephews David (April) Smith, Garrett Klahn, nieces Cindy (Fred) Kozak and Barb (Guy) Perry. Karl was a cabinet maker at Benman Company, in North Tonawanda, for many years, before going to work for Dinaire Furniture, from where he retired. Karl was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend, to all who knew him. He loved his Homestead Drive neighbors and their children, where he resided for 55 years. Karl (Knuckles) was a member of the Third Warders Social Club for almost 60 years. His passion in life was playing softball. He was inducted in to the WNY Softball Hall of Fame on November 9, 1999. He loved and cherished his friendships with all his Club Buddies, whether they played ball, or not, or whether they played with, or against, him. He also loved to fish with his brother and the "gang". Karl donated his body to the University of Buffalo Medical Center. There will be a celebration of his life at the Third Warders Social Club (147 12th Ave., North Tonawanda), on Saturday, January 9, 2016, from 5-9 PM.
