Bandits lose preseason game

The Buffalo Bandits dropped an 9-7 decision to the New England Black Wolves in a preseason game played in Allentown, Pa., on Saturday night.

The game-winning goal was scored by Shawn Evans, the National Lacrosse League’s Most Valuable Player last season who was traded to New England by Calgary. The score came with 1:25 left. Ex-Bandit Jimmy Purves added an empty-net goal to finish the scoring.

The Bandits had led, 7-3, after three quarters, but New England did all of the scoring in the final 15 minutes to win. Dhane Smith and rookie Anthony Malcom had two goals each for Buffalo, while Daryl Veltman, Chad Culp and Ryan Benesch also scored.

The Bandits open their season on Jan. 9 at home against Calgary.
