Columbus “Sonnie” Green Jr., musician, teacher played in area bands

Columbus “Sonnie” Green Jr., a musician and music teacher, died unexpectedly Dec. 8 in his Buffalo home. He was 60.

Born in Buffalo, he earned an associate degree in music studies from Villa Maria College.

Mr. Green was bassist and lead vocalist with the group Shok-Z-Bop and played with Rick James and many other musicians. He also worked for several years at Kleinhans Music Hall. In addition to his music, he did drawings and wrote poetry.

Survivors include six sisters, Dorothy Jones, Bessie Thomas, Annie Foster, Carrie Holt, Betty Ann and Gwendolyn; and three brothers, Daniel, Aaron and Clayton.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Friendship Baptist Church, 402 Clinton St.
