A retired judge from Amherst with Alzheimer’s disease who was reported missing Wednesday afternoon was found safe about 24 hours later in Wolcott, authorities announced Thursday afternoon.
Police had asked the public’s help Thursday in locating John P. Lane, 85, a retired State Supreme Court justice who left a party Wednesday afternoon and failed to return home. At 9:30 a.m. Thursday, authorities said, he was spotted about 150 miles away from Amherst at a gas station in Oswego.
Lane was finally located Thursday afternoon by a State Police officer in the Town of Wolcott, about 27 miles southwest of Oswego, said Amherst police, who added, “He is reported to be in good health and police are bringing him back home to Amherst.”
Amherst Police thanked the media, law enforcement, New York State Missing Persons Clearing House and the public for helping to locate Lane.
