Ex-Bills linebacker Bentley in town for book signings

Former Buffalo Bills linebacker Ray Bentley will be in town this weekend to promote his debut fiction novel, “Driftwood.” Bentley has scheduled several appearances to meet fans, pose for photos and sign books and football memorabilia.

The former Bills player will kick off his schedule from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 19, with a Bills roundtable discussion and book signing at Nice Ash Cigars & Lounge (5334 Transit Road, Depew). From 6 to 8 that evening, Bentley will visit Dave and Adam’s Card World (8075 Sheridan Drive, Williamsville).

From noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, Bentley will visit the Amherst Pizza & Ale House (55 Crosspoint Parkway, Amherst) to sign books and host a Bills watch party.

Bentley played with the Bills from 1986-1991 and was part of the 1990 and 1991 AFC Championship teams. He was also the head coach and general manager of the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League from 2000-2002 and is now in his 13th season with ESPN as a college football game analyst.

Bentley is also known for the children’s books — featuring Darby the Dinosaur — he authored and published while playing with the Bills. He has seven children’s books to his credit, and four will be available for purchase in addition to “Driftwood” at the signing events: “Darby’s Christmas Adventure,” “The Great Gator Princess,” “No More Hiccups” and “Nobody Said Happy Birthday.”

“Driftwood” draws from Bentley’s vast football experience and love for Buffalo, featuring an underdog team trying to achieve a long-sought playoff victory.

“I always look forward to visiting my old home of Buffalo, especially when I have the opportunity to meet and greet the greatest football fans on the planet,” Bentley said in a release. “Bills fans and football fans alike are going to love my new book which features the Buffalo Blizzard and their quest to win a Mega Bowl Title. The book is fiction, but I’m sure any sharp Bills fan will recognize some of the characters.”

Hardcover copies of “Driftwood” cost $25, and the Darby the Dinosaur and Bubba Gator children’s books can be purchased for $3 each or all four titles for $10. The e-book version of “Driftwood” is $6.99 and is available for purchase on all e-book platforms
