Man suspected of swallowing narcotics to avoid arrest

NIAGARA FALLS – A Niagara Falls man acting suspicious during a traffic stop swallowed a glassine bag believed to contain drugs, according to police.

Wilford T. Boans, 57, of South Avenue, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, tampering with physical evidence, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

When an officer spotted the bag folded neatly in a shelf beneath the car radio, Boans swallowed it, said police, who also found a blue pill in an unmarked prescription bottle. Police said Boans was taken to the hospital, where he told staff the glassine bag contained two crushed Lortabs.
