Letter: Children’s should offer pediatric heart surgery

Children’s should offer pediatric heart surgery

Although generally Women & Children’s Hospital, operated by Kaleida Health, provides excellent care to its patients, it is lacking in a very critical area, and that is not having a pediatric heart surgeon.

If your infant or child needs such surgery, be prepared to go to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. You can imagine the hardship on the family and patient. When the child has surgery at Strong, obviously it requires an overnight stay, sometimes for days. It also requires repeated follow-up checkups, thus more trips to Rochester.

So Kaleida needs to get its act together and recruit such a surgeon – no excuses.
