Utility poles cut by vandal along Transit Road

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports that two utility poles along Transit Road in the Town of Clarence appeared to be deliberately cut with a chainsaw or some other mechanical saw, which disrupted power to area businesses.

The Sheriff’s Office was called at about 9:30 a.m. Monday, after the Harris Hill Fire Co. responded to an incident and discovered that a utility pole in the vicinity of the Eastern Hills Mall had been cut. Sheriff’s deputies and detectives called to the scene began investigating and while inspecting other utility poles in the area, they were contacted by a representative from New York State Electric and Gas about another pole that had been cut near Transit Road and Wehrle Drive.

Since then, the Sheriff’s Office has been investigating other suspicious incidents in the area and is asking anyone who has seen similar acts or who might have surveillance video of such vandalism to call 858-2903.
