Ciminelli advances in Viper Championship

Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga eliminated Brad Angelo of Lockport late Monday night and advanced to Wednesday’s Round of Eight in the PBA Viper Championship at the PBA World Series VII at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev.

Ciminelli took the best of five elimination match against Angelo, 3-1. The scores were: 193-202, 203-200, 258-237, 241-180. Angelo earned $1,400. He had defeated Daniel Fransson of Sweden, 3-1 (245-176, 187-189, 224-191, 195-158) in the first round of match play.

Ciminelli will face Sean Rash of Montgomery, Ill., in his next match. Rash won a hard-fought Round of 16 match against PBA Hall of Famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. Rash won the fifth game, 259-237 after Williams had tied the match with a 279-225 win in the fourth game.

Wednesday’s winners will advance to Friday’s Viper finals, which will be taped for later showing on ESPN.
