ATTICA – Village of Attica-area residents concerned about health and safety problems linked to unused or unwanted prescription drugs can take advantage of the Prescription Drug/Medication Drug Take Back Program of the Attica Police Department, Chief Dean R. Hendershott announced Monday. The “no questions asked” program which is already underway allows any community resident to turn in over-the-counter and prescription medications at the police department at 43 Exchange Street.
For any resident who does not have a means of transportation an on-duty police officer can come to their home and pick up the medications. Chief Hendershott said that “unfortunately at this time the program cannot accept any needles or syringes.”
Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory J. Rudolph picks up the dropped off drugs and safely destroys them in accordance with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s yearly Prescription Drug Take-Back Program, Chief Hendershott said.
Signs and handouts are being distributed throughout the community about the drug take back program and anyone with questions about the program can contact the police department at (585) 591-0881.
