Charitable group seeks donations for rural poor

NEWFANE – A Newfane charitable organization is seeking help as the holidays approach.

Denise Noble, founder of the Pay It Forward Foundation, is looking for blankets, warm clothes, footwear, toys and even Christmas trees with all of the trimmings for those families she deems the “rural poor.”

“These are the working poor, who just make it from paycheck to paycheck,” Noble said. “They are families that think they can do this themselves, but find out at the last minute they don’t have the money for the holidays.

“Donations have been down, so I think we helped about 52 children last year, but I have helped as many as 138 children in past years,” she said. “I have lots of names, but I have had to turn people away.”

Noble said many people are unaware that there is such a need in their own communities and that all donations to Pay It Forward remain in Niagara County.

“The donations are low in the rural areas because the large donations go to the bigger cities,” Noble said. “Our area families do not have the means of public transportation to travel to the bigger cities such as Buffalo and Niagara Falls to seek help. And the long arm of generosity in Buffalo and Niagara Falls never seems to reach our rural communities.

“That’s why I work so hard in trying to help these very deserving families,” she added. “Donations are critical for our success. Without donations, we will fail.”

She said families from Wilson, Somerset, Royalton, Hartland, Cambria and Newfane contact her during the winter months and holiday season for help providing a merry Christmas for their children. She said she also accepts gently used and clean toys.

Anyone with donations or those in need may call Noble at 449-1761 or email her at: denisenoble65@yahoo.com to make arrangements for drop-off or pickup.

Monetary donations may be mailed to the Pay It Forward Charitable Organization of WNY Inc., P.O. Box 204, Newfane, NY 14108.
