Richard Jack “Rick” Vivacqua, an insurance agency executive, died Tuesday in his Amherst home. He was 59.
Born in Buffalo, he attended St. Gregory the Great School and was a graduate of Canisius High School and St. John Fisher College.
Mr. Vivacqua joined his family’s Vivacqua Insurance and Co. and took over the business from his father. He joined the Lawley Insurance Group in 2003 and was a partner in Lawley Vivacqua Scheff Insurance in Amherst. He was a former president of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Western New York.
Active in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, he was a former church trustee and a member of the Executive Pastoral Council and the church’s St. Vincent de Paul Society. He also served as president of the board of directors of Parish Religious Education. For his service to the parish, he received the St. Joseph the Worker Award.
He also was a volunteer at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Catherine Flynn; a daughter, Catherine; a son, Daniel; his mother, Louise; four sisters, Rosemarie Foulds, Lydia Brenner, Kathryn Anderson and Susan Grubb.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
