A Niagara Falls man has been charged with assaulting a federal probation officer, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. said Friday.
The charge against Monsuru Giwa, 24, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The charge against Giwa stems from a Nov. 24 incident when probation officers tried to search Giwa’s Niagara Falls residence, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Adler. An officer approached Giwa on the porch and ordered him to put his hands behind his back. Giwa tried to break free, causing the officer to fall off the porch and onto the ground, suffering leg lacerations.
Giwa ran from the scene.
