Judge promises one-year sentence to Falls crack dealer

LOCKPORT – Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon told a Niagara Falls crack dealer Thursday that she intends to sentence him to a year in the County Jail when he returns to court Feb. 18.

Naquan M. Mathews, 24, of Cleveland Avenue, received the news as he pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for an April 15 drug deal with a police informant in the Falls. Sheldon also ordered Mathews to repay the county Drug Task Force the $120 he was paid for the crack.

Sheldon could have given Mathews as long as 2½ years in state prison, and she warned Mathews that is still a possibility if he is arrested again before the sentencing date.
