A Thursday morning blaze on the city’s West Side caused $195,000 in damages to two homes.
Firefighters were called to a 2½-story home at 17 Herkimer St. at about 11:25 a.m. The fire spread next door to 15 Herkimer.
Damage to the home at 17 Herkimer, where the blaze began, was pegged at $75,000, while the neighboring home sustained $120,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
People inside the homes managed to escape and no injuries were reported. A dog was rescued from one of the burning houses and firefighters were seen giving the animal oxygen.
