Carol Anne Skurzewski, active as a volunteer in church organizations, died Monday in her home in Elma after a long battle with cancer. She was 69.
Born in Buffalo, the former Carol Anne Lewandowski attended Corpus Christi and Queen of Peace elementary schools. After graduating from Villa Maria Academy, she took courses at Villa Maria College and worked for 10 years as an engineering secretary at Westinghouse Electric.
An Elma resident since the late 1970s, Mrs. Skurzewski was active as a volunteer at Annunciation Catholic Church, was a pre-school teacher and took part in the shawl ministry, the ministry of consolation and the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church soup kitchen.
She also was a Mission Team member at St. Vincent de Paul Church, created Andy’s Angels of Ministry, sewing pillows for children’s oncology departments, and volunteered at the Burchfield Amana Garden Club.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Leo J.; a son, Dave; a daughter, Amy Schultz; a sister, Sister Mary Gloria Lewandowski CSSF; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 6441 Seneca St., Springbrook.
