Voters in two school districts give OK to propositions

Voters in school district referendums Tuesday approved propositions on school busing and funding for future construction projects in the Attica Central School District in Wyoming County and for a capital improvement project in the Chautauqua Lake Central School District in Chautauqua County.

In Attica, a proposal to provide transportation for students who live up to 19½ miles from school passed, 155-80. The state-mandated maximum distance is 15 miles. Another proposal authorizing the School Board to set up a capital reserve fund of up to $10 million to pay for construction, reconstruction and equipment also passed, 125-115.

In Mayville, a capital reserve fund will help support a $12.25 million Chautauqua Lake Central School capital improvement project which was given the green light, 256-84. It will be completed at no extra cost to taxpayers, district officials said.

The project will make school buildings more energy efficient, convert a classroom for the school’s STEM program, improve security, rebuild the parking lot and fix the drainage problems on the athletic fields.
