Every Person Influences Children – EPIC – received a $10,000 grant from the J.M. McDonald Foundation to expand its Families in Transition (FIT) parenting program.
FIT is a research-based program for parents who are at risk of homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence and mental health issues, to name a few. In many cases the parents are facing the possible loss of custody and in most cases Child Protective Services and/or the Family Court system is involved.
Between 20 and 30 parents will participate in five, three-hour sessions or 10 sessions at 90 minutes each. Sessions involve group discussions on a variety of topics such as parenting, literacy, emotional growth, communication and non-violence.
