Castile man charged with deer-hunting violations

GAINESVILLE – A Wyoming County man faces charges he violated state environmental conservation laws and a misdemeanor charge involving the taking of an antlered deer last week.

State Police said James J. Salamone, 66, of Castile, provided a false written statement to Department of Environmental Conservation police for an incident on Thursday off Route 78 in Gainesville.

In addition to the misdemeanor charge, police also ticketed Salamone for taking of an illegal deer, illegally lending a back tag to another and illegally accepting a carcass tag from another.

He has an upcoming date in Gainesville Town Court, authorities said.
