Learn to skate classes begin Monday at Cornerstone Arena

LOCKPORT – A program of learn-to-skate classes for all ages begins Monday at Lockport’s Cornerstone Arena, Market and Chestnut streets.

The sessions cost $96 and include eight weekly classes, each with 25 minutes of instruction and 25 minutes of practice on the ice. Hockey or bicycle helmets are recommended but not required.

Classes are ongoing and students may register anytime at cornerstoneicearena.com/learntoskate or by calling Dawn Ahlers at 636-4830 or 860-6775.

The program uses the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills curriculum for adults and children ages 4 and up. Learn to Skate for Hockey classes, also for ages 4 and up, teach basic hockey skating skills without the use of sticks or pucks. Classes meet at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, 5:20 p.m. Fridays and at 11 a.m. and noon Sundays. An adults-only class is held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays; a class geared toward home-schooled children and a parent-and-tot class for ages 3 to 6 both are slated for 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Adult participation is not required.
