Lawrence T. Zabaldo of the Town of Tonawanda, a retired dental laboratory supervisor, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 82.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Lafayette High School, where he was a member of Tao Zeta Tao fraternity, and served in the Army, attaining the rank of private first class.
Mr. Zabaldo, a certified dental technician, worked for the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, then was a dental lab technician and lab supervisor at Crown and Bridge Ceramics. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Upstate New York Dental Laboratory Owners Association and in 1985 received the Dick Moore Award for outstanding efforts on behalf of the dental laboratory profession.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, painting, photography and N-Scale model trains. In retirement, he devoted five years to building a 7-by-7-foot fully landscaped layout for the D,S&J N-Scale Model Railroad, which can be seen on YouTube.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Kathleen Logal; a daughter, Karen A. Mauch; two sons, Peter and Mark; a brother, Charles; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Amelia’s Catholic Church, 2999 Eggert Road, Town of Tonawanda.
