Construction workers will “top off” the steel frame of the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus on Monday, marking a major milestone in construction of the 12-floor facility.
Kaleida Health executives, staff and physicians, together with construction manager Turner Construction Co., will celebrate as the highest pieces of steel are erected on top of the $267 million project at 818 Ellicott St., at the corner of Goodrich Street. While some smaller fill-in pieces may still be installed, the overall structure will be complete, and work will shift first to putting up the exterior walls and facade, and then to the interior.
The new 183-bed free-standing facility will replace the aging Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo campus on Bryant Street, and will be linked directly to Buffalo General Medical Center, the Gates Vascular Institute, University at Buffalo’s new medical school, Conventus and Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Completion is expected by November 2017.
