Andrew W.K. brings the party to Broadway Joe’s

Author, television host, motivational speaker, rock star; all of these phrases describe Andrew W.K. (Wilkes-Krier) but none of them say who he is.

If asked that question, he’d most likely answer “professional partier.” But partying isn’t just fun and games with Andrew W.K. (though it is that as well), it’s a lifestyle and a philosophy. The very act of letting yourself go and being totally free and uninhibited guides this modern-day rock Confucius’ teachings up on the stage and off of it. Ever since delivering his smash hit debut record “I Get Wet” in 2001, Andrew W.K. has spread a message of fun and using partying as a release from stressors, negativity and problems we face.

But W.K.’s preachings go way beyond simple frat boy exuberance. He’s been invited to speak at Yale and Oxford about his message, and has had several sagelike and poignantly funny advice columns. He’s even discussed his ideas with the likes of Deepak Chopra.

But then there’s the music. W.K. knows how to craft melodies full of hard rock fun and aggressive energy. If you’ve been at one of his shows, you know they can get crazy. But that’s the point. The goal is to forget your worries for at least a few hours and leave the show with a smile on your face. Andrew W.K. plays Dec. 8 at Broadway Joe’s (3051 Main St.). Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 (Ticketfly.com).
