With the holiday season each year comes a surge in packages sent through the U.S. mail.
To meet that need, the Postal Service will deliver packages seven days a week through Christmas Day. In high traffic areas, mail carriers will also pick up from blue collections boxes on Sundays.
“The Postal Service is the shipper of choice for many Americans,” James Lentz, the Postal Service’s local district manager, said in a statement. “During the holidays, we’re raising the bar with additional transportation and Sunday delivery.”
Postal Service officials said the expanded delivery schedule is due to an expected double-digit increase in mail traffic this holiday season, much of it due to the growth of online shopping.
Nationwide, the Postal Service will deliver more than 600 million packages from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, with about 8 million of those flowing through Western New York.
