Man faces drug and traffic charges

A 27-year-old East Utica Street man who tried to avoid a Buffalo police traffic checkpoint late Wednesday ended up being arrested on felony drug sale-related charges and traffic law violations. Anthony Smith was pulled over  at Berwyn and Burlington avenues about 11:20 p.m. Officers reported finding in his car a burning marijuana blunt and quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana and an open bottle of tequila.

He was charged with felony counts of third and fourth-degree criminal possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, unlawful possession of marijuana, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a license and trying to avoid a traffic device.
