Elmwood East district wins historic designation

The Elmwood Historic District East has been added to the state and national Registers of Historic Places. The announcement was made Thursday by State Sen. Marc Panepinto, D-Buffalo; Assemblyman Sean Ryan, D-Buffalo; Council Majority Leader David Rivera and Delaware Council Member Joel Feroleto.

The designation makes 60 homes in the district between Elmwood and Delaware avenues from Summer Street to Delaware Park eligible for the state Historic Homeownership Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program. Together with the Elmwood Historic District West, which was designated in 2012, it creates the largest historic district in Buffalo and one of the largest in the nation.
