Falls man takes plea deal in stabbing

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man who stabbed another man during a March 31 street fight pleaded guilty Wednesday before State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr.

In a plea bargain, Alfred J. Maye Jr., 23, of Elmwood Avenue, admitted to second-degree assault in exchange for Kloch’s promise that when he passes sentence Feb. 19, Maye will receive no more than three years in prison and three years of post-release supervision. The maximum penalty for the crime is seven years in prison.

Maye knifed a man during a brawl on Ashland Avenue in the Falls. A detective testified at a pretrial hearing in September that three witnesses identified Maye as the man who inflicted the knife wound. Maye was arrested April 10. He’s free on bail while awaiting sentencing.
