Lane closures this week on a section of the Niagara Thruway won’t start until after the evening rush hour, the state Department of Transportation said Tuesday, correcting information the agency previously released.
Traffic on the I-190 between Niagara Street and the Peace Bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting at 7 p.m. nightly through Friday. The lanes are scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning.
The agency had previously announced – by mistake, officials now say – the closures would start at 5 p.m., which would have had more significant impact on the afternoon commute.
The reason for the lane closures involves the erection of steel for the Porter Avenue bridge over the I-190, the agency said.
