Two agencies get state funds to help homeowners avoid foreclosure

Two local agencies that provide free legal services to homeowners at risk of foreclosure – Legal Assistance of Western New York and the Western New York Law Center – are among 28 across the state that will share $11.5 million in state funding, State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announces. The local agencies will receive a total of $1.3 million.

The grants, which still must be reviewed and approved by the State Comptroller’s Office, are for one year and may be renewed for a second year. The agencies are taking part in the state’s Homeowner Protection Program, which has helped more than 50,000 families avoid losing their homes through foreclosure.
