Regional polls list Canisius football sixth and 13th in Northeast

Some rankings news.

The latest Northeast Regional rankings from MaxPreps have been released. Canisius is tied for 13th with Delaware's William Penn.

Canisius is not the highest ranking New York school in the poll, even though it is ranked first in the latest New York State Sportswriters' poll in Class AA.

Maine-Endwell (11th) and Archbishop Stepinac (12th) are the other state schools ranked ahead of the Crusaders, whose 20-game winning streak is the second longest active one in the state behind Maine-Endwell's 55 straight wins. Maine-Endwell, which won the state title in Class B last season is now a Class A school and ranked first in the state in that class. Stepinac lost in the state Catholic final to Canisius last year.

For those wondering where Canisius ranks nationally, here's the link to the USA Today rankings. Here' s a head's up, it's not 2014. It took me a while to find them on the list.

In terms of USA Today's regional rankings, Canisius stands sixth in that poll. Aquinas, which is in town to face Bishop Timon-St. Jude on Friday, is ranked ninth in the USA Today Northeast Regional Rankings.

Prepnation.com lists Canisius as No. 9 in Northeast.

In the state polls: Aquinas is ranked third in state in Class AA, Orchard Park fourth and OP's opponent this week, Pittsford, sixth. Timon is ranked 30th.

In Class A, there are four Western New York teams ranked in top 15. South Park is sixth, West Seneca East eighth, Williamsville North 13th and Starpoint 15th.

Cheektowaga is the highest of four area Class B teams in the state poll, ranked at No. 3. In Class C, Bennett is ranked second and Cleveland Hill fifth, while Randolph is No. 2 in Class D, while Franklinville/Ellicottville is fourth.
