LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls detective testified in State Supreme Court Tuesday that three eyewitnesses identified Alfred J. Maye Jr. as the man who committed a stabbing during a street brawl on March 31 on Ashland Avenue in the Falls.
Maye, 23, of 18th Street, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault. The testimony came in a pretrial hearing on the legality of the identification process.
Detective Amy Guiliani said she showed different sets of six mugshots each to the witnesses, and all chose Maye’s photo as the attacker. One of the witnesses was Maye’s cousin, Guiliani said. Maye was arrested April 10, the day after the last of the witnesses identified him as the knife-wielding attacker.
