Ryan: Bills' turnaround began last week 'against a team that was trying to stick it you'

Running highlights from Rex Ryan's news conference...

On the win... The Sabres looked good. So we have that going for us. ... Obviously a lot of positives for us to take from but there's things we need to get better at. As we look at the tape, we need to correct a few things, as we keep going, keep improving and we'll end up where we want to be. No. 1, it started with protection on offense against a pretty good pass rush. They have some talent there. When Tyrod had time, he stepped up. Really like the way Hogan played. ... Our receivers, I'm proud of the way we're blocking. Woods got a 15-yard penalty but he's done a tremendous job. Hogan. Percy Harvin, we had him blocking their best linebacker. That's the kind of team we want to be and that'll lead to big runs for us. Defensively, it's unfortunate. We could've had a big day and we gave up two explosive plays. The jump ball, I don't know, was lucky. ... We're still not there defensively but a lot better this week than last week.

On injuries... Concern's not the right word. We challenge our players that you've got to be ready to go. You're one play away. When you don't finish a game, most of the time the following week they're not available. We have to go in thinking the next guy's going to step up for us.

On if Watkins will miss the game... That's certainly a possibility. All those guys. If you don't finish a game, not always, but in most cases that happens. Miller. Who knows. We've got to be ready to go.

On Harvin/weapons... The guy who floated under the radar was Percy Harvin -- 'oh by the way, the Bills signed Percy Harvin.' OK, Percy Harvin is a big-time player. A big-time player. I think we're seeing that. Even when they kick the onside kick, go ahead, kick it to our guy. He's one of our best players. Kick it right there. That's him. He's unselfish, he'll do whatever it takes to help the team and he stepped up in a big way in Sammy's absence. We have a ton of weapons and once we get those guys 100% or close, but once you get LeSean back when he's really humming, he's a special player. Sammy can be the same way when he's healthy. We have to hold serve until we get everybody at that level. Guys have stepped in --- Charles Clay, Karlos Williams has stepped up in a big way. We have a lot of weapons but it'll be fun to get everybody back at 100 percent.

On Ryan bringing team together after the loss... I pulled out the tricks. But what I did was I told them the truth. As I mentioned our bounceback started in the fourth quarter of that New England game. Back when it's easy to throw out the white flag and you're down all those scores,  we did the opposite. We made it a game against a team that was trying to stick it you. We know it. Everybody knows it. I'm the only guy who'll admit it. So we knew it. I can tell you this, we're a talented team. Especially when we have our guys out there, we'll see how it goes. We know we're a long way away from matching up with New England obviously. They blew us out. OK, we'll see. Each week, we move on. I finding out a lot about this team but they showed me a lot about their heart and resiliency so I expected us to play well when we went to Miami.

On Ronald Darby... Extremely happy. I don't know if there's a rookie corner playing better than him. Darby's doing an outstanding job. Three of our picks are playing as well as any of them. Obviously you tip your hat to our scouting department, Doug Whaley and them. Just so happens Leodis McKelvin has a setback... he's playing like a guy with more experience than he has. Obviously this week will be interesting but we'll see.

On if he'll sit McCoy... I'm not going to say I'll rest him, I'll let our doctors and trainers look at that and they'll tell me.
