Amherst basement fire caused $65,000 damage

A basement fire Monday afternoon at 371 Bernhardt Drive in Amherst was quickly extinguished by the Snyder Fire Department with help from Eggerstville and Williamville units but still caused $65,000 damage. The fire, called in about 12:45 p.m., caused $40,000 damage to the building and $25,000 to contents. It remained under investigation Monday evening. One firefighter was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for observation after he complained at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
