LOCKPORT – Antonio M. Daniels of Niagara Falls was arraigned in Niagara County Court Friday on an indictment that accused him of beating his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son April 15.
Daniels, 22, of Willow Avenue, pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma showed County Judge Sara Sheldon photos of the boy’s entirely purple buttocks, which she said resulted from a beating with Daniels’ bare hands.
The judge also was irked when Sloma reported that the boy’s mother also had been charged with child endangerment in a different incident and Daniels came to Niagara Falls City Court to support her. They are “still in regular contact,” the prosecutor said.
“Something smells about this situation,” Sheldon said as she set bail for Daniels at $1,000.
