Court case on Batavia mother postponed

BATAVIA – Court proceedings in the case of a Batavia woman charged with second-degree murder for intentionally killing her infant daughter have been postponed for five months.

Christina Colantonio, 28, was scheduled to appear in City Court on Thursday but Public Defender Jerry M. Adler requested that the case be adjourned until Feb. 25, 2016.

Charges were filed against Colantonio on Aug. 29 when police discovered the body of a baby girl at her home on Liberty Street. Police believe the child was born at home and was in the house for about three months.

Colantonio was released from jail on Sept. 1 after an autopsy was unable to confirm that a live birth took place. An order requesting a second medical examination has been signed by Genesee County Court Judge Robert C. Noonan.

The county district attorney’s office would not comment when contacted on Thursday.
