LOCKPORT – The second annual Locktoberfest will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Erie Canal locks area of downtown Lockport, sponsored by the New York State Canal Corp. and the City of Lockport.
The event will feature an expanded version of the weekly Community market on Canal Street, with beer and wine tastings, food vendors, demonstrations of the partially restored 129th century canal locks called the Flight of Five, and live entertainment, not least of which is a chance to have a photo taken with Sal the Mule, the official canal mascot, between 9 and 3. Music lasts from 11 to 5.
Also Saturday in Lockport, a 42-by-60-foot mural on the side of Mills Jewelers, 51 Main St., which depicts the Flight of Five, will be dedicated. The $30,000 painting, “Guardian of the Waters,” was created by Buffalo artist Augustina Droze with help from Bruce Adams.
