Lawrence Nowacki, Vietnam vet and retired GM employee

Dec. 2, 1944 – Sept. 10, 2015

Lawrence Nowacki, a Vietnam veteran and 30-year employee of General Motors – who for part of that time also worked for the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office – died Sept. 10 at his home in Winter Spring, Fla. He was 70.

Born in Kenmore, Mr. Nowacki attended Kenmore West High School.

He married the former Sharon Richardson in 1965, two years before joining the Army and fighting in Vietnam. He served until 1969 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Nowacki and his wife raised their family in Newfane.

While working at GM’s Tonawanda Engine Plant, he worked for about 10 years as a member of the Sheriff’s Office Mounted Division.

After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida where he started a landscaping business that was still active at the time of his death.

Mr. Nowacki is survived by his wife of 49 years; two daughters, Kim Niedzialowski and Veronica; three sons, Michael, Todd Storrey and David; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 565 E. Park Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
