Joyce Carol Oates to speak in Wellsville

Award-winning author and Lockport native Joyce Carol Oates will make a rare local appearance in the David A. Howe Public Library of Wellsville.

Oates, who recently released her memoir “The Lost Landscape: A Writer’s Coming of Age,” will speak at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the library’s Nancy Howe Auditorium. Seats will be first-come, first-serve for this free lecture in which she’ll discuss using Western and Central New York as the backdrop to many of her stories. Additional seating will be provided in the Exhibition Room where her talk will be streamed live.

Following the lecture, a reception and book signing will be held from about 8 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include a reserved seat at the lecture. For information, call (585) 593-3410 or email Wellsville@stls.org.
