If minimum wage rises, taxes should be lowered
Our current local and state political leaders have been promoting an increase in the minimum wage to $15 per hour with the justification that it will save us money that is currently being spent on social services. If they are being honest with us, they should be willing to take the savings to reduce a tax rate that was increased years ago to help pay for social services. Our sales tax rate should be reduced incrementally based on the increase in the minimum wage. I challenge all the politicians running for election this year to let the public know how they stand on this.
