Robber is given a chance to earn probation

LOCKPORT – A man who took part in the beating and robbery of a Youngstown man last year was placed on interim probation for a year Monday, giving him a chance to earn a full five-year probation term.

Jonathan P. Easterly, 24, of 61st Street, Niagara Falls, had pleaded guilty in July to a reduced count of attempted second-degree robbery for the Sept. 27 mugging during a drug deal gone awry in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store at Buffalo Avenue and 68th Street in the Falls. The victim lost $160 and a cellphone.

Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III said Easterly must pay half of a $285 restitution tab. The other robber, Andre Sanders, 26, of Royal Avenue in the Falls, pleaded guilty to the same charge and is awaiting sentencing.
