RB LeSean McCoy is active for the Bills

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is active and will play Sunday against the New England Patriots at Ralph Wilson Stadium. McCoy pulled out of practice Thursday with a hamstring issue, a concern considering he missed a chunk of training camp with the issue.

But for this AFC East early-season showdown, he's apparently good to go.

McCoy's position coach was optimistic earlier this week, but admitted the team probably gave him too many snaps in the opener. That could mean a greater role for rookie Karlos Williams against the Pats. Williams burst onto the scene against Indianapolis with 55 yards and a touchdown.

"The guy was out of training camp for the last three weeks," running backs coach Anthony Lynn said of McCoy, "and hadn’t played nursing that hamstring. I didn’t know what he could do that game to be honest with you. He hadn’t taken a hit and pushed off on that. It’s still a little sore, but he’ll be fine.”

With McCoy, the Bills will take those 2- and 1-yard gains if he strikes with a 50-yarder at some point.

"Sometimes guys who make big plays will lose a yard here or a yard there," Lynn said. "But in the game last week, I didn’t think that was the case. There were some things as a unit we could’ve done better to keep the line of scrimmage cleaner. When we get him going, we know what he can do.”
