Rasmus Ristolainen will miss the opening seven to 10 days of Sabres training camp with an upper-body injury, the team announced Friday. Cody McCormick, meanwhile, is out indefinitely after failing his physical.
Ristolainen led the Sabres' defensemen in games played (78), goals (eight), assists (12) and points (20) last season. The 20-year-old is scheduled to play on Buffalo's top pairing.
Ristolainen should be back well before the start of the regular season Oct. 8.
McCormick suffered blood clots in his leg in January and has been sidelined ever since. He's been working out, but the Sabres' doctors did not clear him to return to the roster.
The 32-year-old center is entering the second season of a three-year, $4.5 million contract. McCormick had one goal, four points and 40 penalty minutes in 33 games last year.
