Woody Arnold fell a little short in his quest to capture the New York State Super Senior Amateur Golf Championship.
Arnold, who plays out of Park Country Club in Amherst, fired a closing-round 9-over 80 on Thursday at Onondaga Golf and Country Club in Fayetteville.
Arnold fired a 54-hole total of 72-74-80-226, finishing just one stroke behind the champion, John Hathway. Hathway, who trailed by two shots after the second round, closed with a 77.
Arnold had two-double bogeys and four bogeys during his opening nine holes, making the turn at 8-over. He closed by sinking two long birdie putts on the last two holes but it wasn’t enough to force a playoff.
