LOCKPORT – Ernest L. Hoover III of Wheatfield pleaded guilty Thursday in State Supreme Court to stealing almost $15,000 worth of tires bought with fraudulent checks from the Dunn Tire location in the Falls.
Hoover admitted to third-degree grand larceny and was assigned by Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment. Hoover risks seven years in prison if he fails in drug treatment, but if he succeeds the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor with a nonjail sentence.
Hoover, 34, of Niagara Falls Boulevard, wrote the checks on a closed account from Nov. 14-24. He will have to make restitution of $14,951 to Dunn Tire.
