Disabilities advocate to address everyday obstacles faced by many

David Whalen, an advocate for individuals with disabilities, will be speaking about everyday obstacles faced by people with disabilities at noon Sept. 27 in Universalist Unitarian Church of Buffalo, 695 Elmwood Ave.

Whalen, who worked with Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara for 17 years, founded Disability Awareness Training in 2004. He specializes in creating proactive approaches to integrating people with disabilities into community activities. He has helped train professionals in law enforcement, social services, schools and churches.

He has worked with the Buffalo Sabres, Erie County Fair, Town of Hamburg Recreation Department and Buffalo Wheelchair.

His topic will be “Everyday Obstacles for People with Disabilities.” The hourlong presentation will be followed by a discussion led by Whalen about major barriers affecting individuals with disabilities in Buffalo.
