“Good Samaritan” attempt leads to assault and robbery

A man driving his vehicle in the city’s Broadway-Bailey area Tuesday afternoon apparently thought he was doing something decent when he stopped for a man who was waving him down in the street.

When the driver got out of his car, the other man pulled out a silver handgun, pointed it at him and ordered him to hand over his keys, Ferry-Fillmore police reported.

When the driver refused, the other man struck him with the gun in the right eye and later the back of his head.

The victim then fell to the ground, and the assailant stole $160 from him.

Police stated that the incident happened on Reiman Street, near North Ogden Street, shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
