Hockey coach Dave Burkholder and men's basketball coach Chris Casey both received contract extensions which will keep them at Niagara through the 2018-19 seasons.
Burkholder is entering his 15th season as the Purple Eagles' head coach and has been part of the program since its inception 19 seasons ago. He has led Niagara to NCAA appearances in 2004 and 2008 while their at-large bid in 2013 was the first for a team from Atlantic Hockey. He has been named a conference coach of the year in the now-defunct College Hockey American and Atlantic Hockey.
“This is our 20th season at Dwyer Arena and it has been a wonderful ride for me and my family," Burkholder said. "Also to all the student-athletes that have worn the Niagara jersey and all staff members, past and present, it is because of you that I continue my journey with Niagara University Hockey.”
Casey is entering his third season at Monteagle Ridge with 29 years of coaching experience.
“Coach Casey has worked tirelessly to build the basketball program every day during the past two seasons and has generated momentum with the excellent recruiting class to complement the returnees,” Niagara's athletics director Simon Gray said.
